Power Plant Data Reporting
NESCAUM has taken the lead in efforts to ensure that the national power plant database remains intact and continues to serve states’ needs. In 2006, in response to budgetary constraints, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) suspended collection of power plant data provided on Form EIA-767 (the Steam-Electric Plant Operation and Design Report) for calendar year 2006. Concerns regarding the fate of Form EIA-767 data spurred NESCAUM to engage in dialogue with EIA and raise general awareness of the issue. NESCAUM convened a coalition of state organizations – including the National Association of State Energy Officials (NASEO), the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC), and the National Association of Clean Air Agencies (NACAA, formerly STAPPA/ALAPCO) – to meet with EIA and discuss the importance of the data from a multi-program perspective. In the near term, NESCAUM plans to engage in discussions with EIA as it develops methodologies related to energy efficiency.
